A Rosemary Wash-Day Oil from Canada
Rosemary oils have had a real moment lately, thanks in part to Mielle, and a lot of people have added rosemary to their wash-day routine. We make our own take: a rosemary and batana pre-wash oil, blended and bottled in Canada.
Ours is a pre-shampoo treatment rather than a leave-in. You apply it to dry hair, let it sit, then wash it out, so the conditioning happens before you cleanse.

Pre-wash vs. leave-in: not the same thing
Hair swells and its cuticle lifts a little in water, right when it loses moisture and softness fastest during a wash. A pre-wash oil goes on before that happens, on dry hair, so it has a chance to protect hair through the wash itself. A leave-in oil goes on wet or towel-dried hair after washing - good for shine and smoothing, but it is not doing the same job.
How to use it
- Apply to dry hair and scalp.
- Leave on for 30-120 minutes.
- Shampoo thoroughly, twice if needed.
- Use 1-2 times a week.
